Edu confirms break-up with Pinky

MANILA - TV host and vice-presidential candidate Edu Manzano on Thursday confirmed that he and his girlfriend of five years, news anchor Pinky Webb, have already called it quits.

Manzano did not deny the reported split, but he refused to discuss the circumstances behind the break-up.

“The personal aspect, maybe we should just keep it to ourselves. I don’t think it will have basis or impact on the campaign. There are just some things that will not always go the way we planned it,” Manzano said in a chance interview after formally accepting his vice-presidential nomination under the Lakas-Kampi-CMD ticket.

Webb did not attend the party’s convention at the Philippine International Convention Center Thursday. Manzano’s celebrity son, Luis Manzano, also failed to appear Thursday.

The elder Manzano said Luis is in the United States.

Both Webb and Luis were caught off guard by Manzano’s decision to run for the county's second-highest public post.

The Philippine Star’s Ricky Lo wrote in his “Funfare” column that Manzano and Webb separated almost a week after the TV host declared his intention to run for vice-president.

In his article, the veteran entertainment journalist said the break-up had nothing to do with Manzano's decision to run as vice-president instead of senator. Lo said his source shot down speculations that a third party on either side was the cause of the break-up.

"Barely a week after Edu Manzano broke the happy news that he has accepted the offer to be Gibo Teodoro’s running-mate in the 2010 elections came the sad news that he and Pinky Webb, his girlfriend of five years, have broken up. Has Edu’s change-of-heart decision to run for vice president instead of (originally) senator anything to do with the split-up?

“No,” said the source code-named Juicy Tongue, “politics has nothing to do with it. Very private ang dahilan.” No “third party” involved daw on either side as in the case of most showbiz break-ups. And to think that Edu and Pinky have been reported to be already talking about getting married. Sayang naman! Stay tuned for more details," Lo said in his article.

Early this week, reports came out that Webb was caught by surprise with Manzano's decision to be the running mate of Lakas-Kampi standard bearer Gilbert Teodoro.

It said Manzano did not tell Webb and his son about his political plan.

During a one-on-one interview on ANC's Talkback with Tina Monzon-Palma on Monday (November 16), Manzano was asked how Webb reacted to his candidacy.

"I think it came as a shock to her, too," Manzano said. He, however, said that Webb supported his decision.

In a previous interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, the former chairman of the Optical Media Board admitted that he and Webb hope to tie the knot this year.

"It will not be a big wedding, it will not be a showbiz wedding. Marami pa kasing dapat pag-isapan pa doon. I mean, we have been together for, magfi-five years na kami on October 19. So let's say it's a very serious relationship," Manzano said.

He also rebuffed speculation that the two of them would only get married to boost his chances in 2010 polls.

"Relationship should not be used to further someone's ambitions. That's my opinion," Manzano ended. -With a report from RG Cruz, ABS-CBN News

Pinky Webb was supposed to follow boyfriend Edu Manzano who is now vacationing in the US. But because of Cory Aquino’s death, ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs boss Maria Ressa stopped her from taking her scheduled leave and agreed to cover Cory’s wake. The buzz is Edu and Pinky is planning a civil wedding in the US as they are not eligible to marry here. Although Edu had been divorced from last wife Maricel Soriano, having an American-Filipino citizenship, he cannot marry in church as he has no annulment. As Edu plans to run for the Senate in the 2010 elections, it’s politically a must for him to be married. He must renounce his American citizenship to do this which he cannot do until he marries Pinky. As he announced on national television last year, he plans to marry Pinky September this year. That’s a month from now. What Pinky is most likely to do is leave after Cory’s burial and go on with his civil wedding with Edu.

MAY IPINAAAYOS NA bahay ngayon si Chairman Edu Manzano sa bandang San Juan. Malaki ang bahay na nasa isang malawak na bakuran din, luma ang istilo nito, kaya ipinare-renovate ngayon ng aktor-TV host sa ayon sa kanyang panlasa.
Maraming nagpapalagay na isa nang preparasyon ni Chairman Edu ‘yun para sa nalalapit nilang pagpapakasal ng magandang news anchor na si Pinky Webb.
May ilang anggulo na lang silang inaasikaso pa, pero saan pa nga ba mauuwi ang matagal na nilang relasyon kundi sa pagpapakasal?
Hindi naman dinisenyo sa langit ang kanilang relasyon, nagkakaroon din sila ng hindi pagkakaunawaan paminsan-minsan, pero totoo ang obserbasyon ng mas nakararami na ibang mag-away ang mga taong may pinag-aralan.
Sa pagkakaalam namin, kapag may tampuhan ang dalawa ay umaalis muna si Chairman Edu, hindi naman siya nagpupunta sa ibang bansa, hindi lang muna siya nagpapakita kay Pinky.
Ganu’n ang epektibong paraan ng mga kalalakihan para ang tampuhan ay hindi lumala, kailangang iwasan nila ang mas mainit pang argumento na maaaring humantong sa kung saan, kapag lumamig na ang timplada ng babae ay saka na lang sila uli bumabalik.
Mahahalata kapag may tampuhan ang dalawa. Makikita mong kumakain nang mag-isa si Chairman Edu, si Pinky naman ay halatadong hindi mapakali.
Pero kapag magandang-maganda ang lagay ng panahon ay makikita mo silang masigla, nagbibiruan habang naglalakad, napakadaling hulaan kapag may hidwaan sina Chairman Edu Manzano at Pinky Webb.

SALUDO KAMI SA pagiging discreet nina Chairman Edu Manzano at Pinky Webb tungkol sa kanilang relasyon. Alam mong nagmamahalan sila, alam mong itinuturing nilang inspirasyon ang bawat isa. Pero hindi sila ang klaseng ipagbubuyangyangan sa buong mundo ang kanilang pagmamahalan.
Kumikilos sila ayon sa kanilang edad, hindi na nga naman sila mga teenager para maglingkisan sa harap ng publiko. Pero sa pagiging simple nila, mararamdaman mo ang sobra-sobra nilang pagmamahal at malasakit sa isa’t isa.
At mas maingat sila sa punto ng hindi nila pagkakaunawaan. Wala kang mararamdamang meron pala silang away, dahil propesyonal pa rin silang nagtatrabaho nang magkasama lalo na nu’ng hindi pa nagbibitiw si Chairman Edu sa kanilang pang-umagang programa.
Sabi ng isang nakausap namin, “Mapi-feel mo lang na meron silang misunderstanding dahil kapag off-cam na, hindi sila nag-uusap. Kapag okey kasi sila, sweet sila sa likod ng mga camera, alam mong walang problema sa pagitan nila,” pagdidiin nito.
Ang plano ng pagpapakasal, palaging nandiyan lang. Pero siyempre, may mga kailangan pa silang ayusin lalo na sa parte ni Chairman Edu. Kailangan pa muna nilang plantsahin ang maraming aspeto ng kanilang relasyon para makahigop na tayo ng mainit na sabaw
